"FOOD OF LOVE"
The English Masque was a courtly entertainment that flourished in the 17th century combining song, comedy, and dance. Henry Purcell, celebrated for his church music and benchmark English opera Dido and Aeneas, was also the indisputable master of the Masque. To commemorate the 350th Anniversary of the British Orpheus, the Opera Company presents FOOD OF LOVE, a collection of vignettes that pays homage to the Masque, the genius of Mister Purcell, and to the grace and power of Musick itself.
Featured performers include: Oliver Camacho tenor,
Diana Stoic, soprano,
Jennifer Haworth, soprano,
Kristin Johnston, soprano,
Lindsey Poling, mezzo-soprano,
Lon Ellenberger, alto,
Tom Crawford, alto,
Anna Steinhoff, baroque cello, Dan Golleher, baroque violin and Mark Shuldiner, harpsichord. With special guest director and choreographer Christopher Hustert.

MARY / MARIA :
The Convergence of Sacred and Secular in the songs of
Purcell and Monteverdi
The OC and friends present a winter concert inspired by Henry Purcell's dramatic scena for Mary, The Blessed Virgin's Expostulation. Both Purcell and Monteverdi were masters of opera as well as music for church. Songs from Monteverdi's Sacri Canti and Purcell's Harmonia Sacra use the same rhetorical devices found in songs and duets written for the court and theater.
Tenor Oliver Camacho with Phillip Serna, viola da gamba, Joel Spears, theorbo and lute, and Mark Shuldiner, harpsichord.
